Pleasures of Type Anatomy

Book | 6”x6” | 45 Pages

An enticing educational book of type anatomy through two different typefaces; Clarendon & Futura.

In the 1840s, a revolutionary performance emerged, marking a significant cultural shift. Initially called a "travesty," this extravaganza was what we now recognize as burlesque. Its unabashed embrace of sexuality startled many, as the notions of nudity and sex were far from societal norms. Emerging from the shadows, burlesque gradually gained acceptance and prominence. Come the 1920s, it had already earned the title of the “golden age of burlesque”, where sensuality was craved and the thirst had become insatiable.

This was how the story of the 2 typefaces came to be.

The slab serif Clarendon, released soon after the industrial revolution, represents the emergence of the art. The sans-serif Futura on the other end, represents the modern era in which burlesque flourished.

This is a book dedicated to deliver you nothing but pleasure.

Enjoy.
